A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, with graduate work at New York University, she joined the New York Times Paris Bureau to work with Flora Lewis, Foreign Affairs Columnist, for six years. After that, for ten years she was Director of Media Operations and Member of the Executive Board of the World Economic Forum, based in Geneva, building the brand and developing media relations. Upon leaving the World Economic Forum, she joined the staff of the San Francisco-based Wired Magazine as European Editor in 2000-2001, continuing as Contributing Editor for several years after that. In 2000, she started Barbara Erskine networks. Affiliations include Media 21; and previously, the World Editor's Forum; and the Global Council of Women World Leaders.
