About Circulution

The Circular Economy is a concept that strives to alter the conventional business logic to a circular consumption approach in which materials are being reused or components biodegradable. While the traditional linear consumption follows a pattern of "take-make-dispose", the Circular Economy builds on reducing resource-dependency and material costs as well as curbing CO2 emissions via a restorative system that closes the loop. Understanding waste as an expensive resource, business models within the new system consider biodegrading and designing products in a way that allows for effective re-utilization. Recycling, refurbishing, reusing and maintaining constitute four adequate methods to minimize waste and energy leakage. Designing out waste means disassembling durable components of a product and allow biological nutrients to reenter the biosphere in a sustainable manner. Advancements in resource performance can be realized through re-utilization of material, energy and labor inputs. Both economical and ecological interests are being addressed simultaneously and thus represent a powerful transformational process. However, current business paradigms and traditional business models have to be adapted. To disperse the concept, create awareness and forge new business models, Circulution.com seeks to drive dialogue on its platform and has set up an Idea Contest to engange people from all backgrounds.
