Een merk wordt in mijn ogen niet alleen gedefiniëerd door het product dat verkocht wordt of de aangeboden service, het wordt grotendeels bepaald door waar het voor staat en in hoeverre het in staat is dat verhaal te vertellen. Hoe goed je prijs, product of service ook is, als mensen je merk niet leuk vinden kopen ze niet. Het gaat erom hoe je iemand zich laat voelen. Ik geloof in het bouwen van sterke, duurzame relaties met de consument, en dat je dat creëert door ze mee te nemen in het verhaal achter het merk. Door ze te binden op emotioneel niveau overstijg je de oppervlakkige koper/verkoper relatie. Om dat verhaal te vertellen is goede content essentieel. In mijn ervaring is er echter doorgaans een onbalans tussen de inhoud en het mediabudget. Veel merken hebben de neiging met een groot mediabudget het bereik af te kopen, terwijl het veel efficienter is om goed materiaal te ontwikkelen en dit weg te zetten via de juiste kanalen. Content dat een snaar raakt en onafhankelijk wordt gedeeld is altijd krachtiger dan het opdringen van iets wat iemand eigenlijk niet wil zien. Sterker nog: het forceren van een boodschap waarbij te weinig aandacht is besteed aan de wijze waarop het gebracht wordt, heeft vaak een negatief effect. Daarnaast heb ik gemerkt dat interne communicatie vaak een gemiste kans is. Ik vind dat je je interne communicatie er niet even bij moet doen, maar dat je er net zoveel aandacht aan moet besteden als aan je externe communicatie. Het is van groot belang dat je je werknemers mee kunt nemen in de essentie van je merk, en ze kunt inzetten om jouw waarden uit te dragen. Het verhaal is net zo belangrijk voor je werknemer als voor je consument. Een goede interne communicatiestrategie reflecteert direct op je hele merk. Ik kan niet wachten om jouw verhaal aan de wereld te vertellen.
